Offer Description

The Department of Water, Atmosphere and Environment, Institute of Soil Physics and Rural Water Management is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate.

Extent of employment:         40 hours per week

Duration of employment:      2nd of May 2024, limited for 6 years

Workplace: 1190 Vienna, Muthgasse 18

Gross monthly salary and pay grade in terms of collective agreement for university staff (payable 14 times per year): B1 lit. b, € 4.752,30

Responsibilities

  • Independent research in the field of soil physics
  • Research focus has to be in at least one of these areas:
    • Model development and simulation of water and mass fluxes in the vadose zone
    • Experimental laboratory investigations in the field of soil hydrology
    • Experimental field investigations in the field atmosphere-plant-soil interactions
    • Method development in the field of soil hydrology
  • Teaching in the area of the research focus as well as general teaching in the field of soil physics and rural water management
  • Independent development of research ideas, acquisition and supervision of third-party funded projects
  • Publication and presentation of scientific results
  • Supervision and mentoring of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students
  • Contribution to academic self-administration
  • Participation in the institute’s administrative tasks
  • “Habilitation” should be aimed for

Required skills and qualifications

  • Doctoral degree/PhD in soil physics or related field
  • Diploma degree in the field of geosciences, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, rural water management or similar disciplines or other equivalent university degree
  • Very good written and spoken English, knowledge of German is an advantage
  • Sound knowledge in your own specialisation
  • Understanding of and experience with soil physics topics outside own research area
  • Research focus should complement existing expertise at the institute and provide possibility for joint projects
  • Strong publication record
  • High motivation for working independently and for working in an interdisciplinary research and teaching environment

Desirable skills and qualifications

  • Teaching experience
  • Successful application of external funding projects
  • Involvement in the scientific community
  • Experience with geographic information systems, statics or time series analysis
  • Driver’s licence (B)
