Offer Description
Please pay attention to the following:
The location for this position is University College Roosevelt, Lange Noordstraat 1, 4331 CB Middelburg, so you will not be employed by Utrecht University!
Your job
The post will require the successful candidate to teach two economics courses in each semester (semesters last for 15 weeks). This person will therefore teach four courses per academic year. These will be at all three levels: introductory, intermediary and advanced. The successful candidate will also supervise a number of 3rd-year bachelor student projects (known in the college as ‘senior projects’). To facilitate this supervision, this person will be research active, will have a broad research network and will have published appropriately to their career stage in the discipline of economics. Financial support will be provided by the department to allow for research results to be presented at national and international conferences.
As University College Roosevelt focuses mainly on teaching, research time will be limited compared to large research universities. That said, UCR is a great place for an early-career researcher who wishes to gain some important teaching and student supervision skills before pursuing a more research-focused academic career at a larger research university or research center.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, candidates must:
- Have, or be working on a PhD in Economics;
- Demonstrable experience in teaching economics and econometrics courses at Bachelor’s-level;
- Be experienced in coding (Stata, R or Python);
- Have excellent command of English, both written and spoken (C1 minimum);
- Have or be willing to acquire a basic university teaching qualification (BKO); and
- Be able and willing to work across the disciplines with colleagues, especially from data science, artificial intelligence and engineering.
An affinity with a Liberal Arts and Sciences approach to teaching will be an advantage.
