Location: Guildford

Salary: £39,347 to £49,794 per annum and dependent on level of appointment

Fixed Term for 24 months.

About us

The Centre for Vision, Speech, and Signal Processing is seeking to recruit a full-time researcher to contribute to a number of projects including sign language data processing and translation. 

You will join an established research group within a highly rated research department, with an excellent computing and software infrastructure for first class research, modern facilities and close links with industry.

About the role 

The work will involve the use of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computer Vision (CV) and Machine Learning (ML) for the translation between spoken Language and Sign Languages. It will include the application of NMT techniques and Large Language Models (LLMs). 

There are also opportunities to contribute to other projects including data collection, text simplification, video generation and sign language recognition. 

What we are looking for

  • A PhD in a related area with a track record of publishing high quality research.
  • Experience of Natural Language Process (NLP), Neural Machine Translation (NMT) or Large Language Models (LLMs) would also be advantageous. 
  • Previous experience of sign language recognition and translation would be advantageous as is experience of supervising research. 
  • Good analytical and programming skills and experience of computer vision and machine learning. 
  • Experience of real time systems development C/C++/C#, Python, OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow and deep learning are essential. 
  • Be self-motivated and proactive in approach to support other researchers.
