Offer Description
- Research and developmental activities at an international level in the area of renewable energy, such as Wind and Solar, along with data analysis from such systems
- Study and research work in the field of Renewable Energy storage and in particular Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- The candidate will be competent in battery systems: design and integration
- Research and developmental activities should be at an international level in the area of electrochemical/battery, storage along with their integration into renewable energy sources, including data analysis from such systems along with creation of energy models to predict and optimize parameters
- Teaching of 2 courses i.e., Smart Grids (5 ECT) and Renewable Energy Sources (5 ECT) are conducted in English
- Supervision of students and academic staff is part of the position
- The assistant professor is expected to develop a speciality module in Energy Storage in English at the Masters’ level by collaborating with the staff of the Energy Applications Engineering Chair
Workload
Up to 40% of the total working time consists of teaching at one or more levels of higher education, supervising master and doctoral students, developing teaching aids and methodological materials, and developing the skills and knowledge needed for teaching and research.
At least 40% of the total working time is spent on works related to research and development, at international level such as conducting research at least in the extent of one doctoral thesis in the last five years, participating in scientific conferences and seminars. Applying for funding from international and national funding agencies. Collaboration with other universities and research institutions.
The remaining total working time is divided into organizational-administrative work, including social activities such as participation in university committees, as well as extra-university responsible bodies and committees, popularization of one's specialty / profession / field of science, etc.

Doctoral degree or equivalent qualification
- Postdoctoral experience or experience in the private sector in the corresponding field
- Teaching experience in higher education and experience of supervising master students
- Knowledge of teaching aids and teaching methodologies
- Internationally recognized research and developmental activities in a closely related field in an extent of at least 1.5 doctoral thesis in the last 5 years
- An experience of participation in internationally and nationally funded research projects

Additional Information
To participate in the competition, candidates are required to submit the following documents to the Personnel Department (Fr. R. Kreutzwaldi 1, 51006 Tartu, Estonia) or by e-mail to konkurss@emu.ee by April 15, 2024:
- an application to the Rector;
- a copy of the document certifying education and/or academic degree;
- CV (curriculum vitae) and a structured list of scientific publications of recent ten years, in the Estonian Research Information System (ETIS) standard format (up to ten significant publications from the earlier period may be included at will); information on academic work and in-service training done within five recent years shall be enclosed with the CV;
- the candidate for the position of Professor shall submit motivation letter reflecting the candidate’s vision about the development of this specific research field and related international cooperation in the university, and the measures that the candidate is going to take for increasing the level of research and teaching in the field (max 1500 words);
- Researcher ID / ORCID / Google Scholar reference;
- other relevant materials at the discretion of the applicant.
Application documents shall be submitted in Estonian or in English. The candidate for the position of a professor shall submit the application documents in Estonian and English. As an exception, application documents may be submitted in English only, if Estonian is not expected from the position holder. The documents shall be submitted in the written form, either on paper to the Personnel Department (Fr. R. Kreutzwaldi 1, 51006 Tartu, Estonia) or as a digitally signed document by e-mail to konkurss@emu.ee.
In case the applicant has obtained higher education in a foreign country, the University will ask for an assessment from the academic recognition information centre (Estonian ENIC/NARIC Centre) on the conformity of the qualification of the applicant to the qualifications required in the position.
For candidates who apply for the position of Professor for the first time it is mandatory to present a public lecture (venia legendi), in case they have not done it earlier.
