The School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Sciences (MDBS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Lecturer in Cancer Systems Biology to undertake research in the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research. The post holder will develop a systems biology research programme in line with the Centre’s broader cancer research strategies, leveraging the digital health opportunities and computational capabilities provided by the Belfast Region City Deal’s (BRCD) Momentum One Zero and access to patient samples enabled by Belfast Regional City Deal’s iREACH HEALTH clinical research facility. The successful candidate will also teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level and contribute to the School’s administration/outreach activities.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria: 

  • Primary or higher degree in a life sciences, mathematics, or a cognate subject.
  • PhD in a biomedical science, biology, or a related discipline to systems biology.
  • A minimum of three years’ recent experience in discipline(s) related to systems biology and cancer research.  
  • Recent, relevant publications in peer reviewed/refereed journals that are high quality and are commensurate with stage of career.
  • Experience of working in collaborative research projects.
  • Experience of developing research methodologies, models, approaches and techniques.
  • Research profile which complements the research priorities and strengths of the Patrick G Johnston Centre of Cancer Research and the Global Institute of Innovation.
  • Experience of giving presentations at national and international meetings and conferences.
  • Relevant teaching experience at University level. 
  • Relevant academic administrative/management experience commensurate with stage in career.
