Offer Description

The full professor should have a broad understanding of the socio-technical transport systems and their role in societies; have knowledge about the integration of parts of the transport system and it interwoveness with the broader society, including energy systems, land use, health, and well-being.

The transport domain covers all kinds of transport systems, including passenger and goods transport, and all modes, ranging from walking and cycling, via private motorized vehicles, public transport and barge, to flying and seagoing ships. Attention should be given to technological and non-technological developments, solutions to societal problems and challenges, and the links between transport systems and societal contexts, such as land use, economy, health, and energy systems. In other words, the full professor should understand the societal and related conceptual complexities of the surrounding transport systems. Because of the societal challenges, the focus is on long-term developments and engineering interventions and policies.

The full-professor position is positioned within the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TPM), Department of Engineering Systems and Services (ESS), and more specifically, in the Transport and Logistics (TLO) section. The department hosts, next to transport and logistics experts, energy and ICT experts, as well as choice modelling and decision-making scholars. This combination of expertise guarantees that the cross-sectoral and socio-technical characteristics of transport systems integration are effectively included by addressing the integration of transport, ICT and energy systems.
