Offer Description
We are looking for a motivated and dedicated PhD student to join the OrganADVANCE team at KU Leuven. You will take part in interdisciplinary research involving six research groups with expertises in biomedicine, (bio-)chemistry, and technology development. Our investigation aims to deliver organoid model systems and corresponding assays as powerful tools for understanding health and disease.
As one of the investigators on this project, you will develop 2D and 3D image analysis pipelines for models of glioblastoma and cystic fibrosis. In particular, you will- generate a comprehensive overview of the currently available tools that allows for 2D- and 3D image analysis with time as a fourth dimension- develop workflows and pipelines for image analysis using example data from the other partners- assist in data interpretation and guidance in experimental optimisations- learn some wetlab procedures to generate 2D and 3D image data sets using advanced multiplexing methods
The OrganADVANCE project consists of six partners at the KU Leuven. While you will interact with all of these partners, most of your efforts will be realized within the Laboratory for Precision Cancer Medicine.

You are a highly motivated and driven (future) researcher with a master degree in bioengineering, computational biology, or a related field. You have a keen interest in bioinformatics and image analysis and a fundamental interest in the underlying biology of disease. You can function well as part of a dynamic interdisciplinary team.
An absolute requirement is that you are eligible for a fellowship application at the Research Foundation Flanders (https://www.fwo.be/en/fellowships-funding/phd-fellowships/) which requires that you obtained your master degree at a university of the European Union no longer than 18 months ago counting from March 2024.
