Project EMODnet Bathymetry

And any other projects undertaken by the Department of Geosciences, Faculty of Science.
Applications are invited for a Research Support Officer (RSO) to carry out duties in relation to the EMODnet Bathymetry Project which is funded by the EU’s Integrated Maritime Policy. The RSO may also be required to work on other projects undertaken by the Department of Geosciences, Faculty of Science.
Applicants should be in possession of a PhD degree related to geosciences and need to be experienced in the processing, visualisation and management of multibeam echosounder data.

The selected candidate must be living in Malta for the period of employment.
The post is for a period up to 3 months. A part-time position will entail an average of 20 hours of work per week.
The remuneration inclusive of any cost-of-living adjustment shall be €35,111 per annum or €16.88 per hour.

Further Information
The European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet) consists of more than 100 organisations assembling marine data, products and metadata to make these fragmented resources more available to public and private users relying on quality-assured, standardised and harmonised marine data. The Marine Geology and Seafloor Surveying group contributes data from the central Mediterranean to the Bathymetry and Geology groups. The RSO may also be required to work on other projects undertaken by the Department of Geosciences, Faculty of Science.
The appointee will be expected to undertake the following tasks:
- process multibeam echosounder data and deliver them in the format required by the project;
- produce deliverables and related reports within the stipulated time frames as specified in the project description;
- travel and attend meetings/conferences as the need arises; and
- perform any other project related task as instructed by the project coordinator and key experts.
The appointee will be expected to work at such places and during such hours as may be determined by the University authorities.
The selection procedure will involve:
- scrutiny of qualifications and experience claimed and supported by testimonials and/or certificates (copies to be included with the application);
- shortlisting; and
- an interview and / or extended interview.
The post is for a period up to 3 months, which will be subject to a probationary period and to the provisions of the Statutes, Regulations and Bye-Laws of the University of Malta which are now or which may hereafter be in force.
