Job description:
The Mathematical Institute of Leiden University invites applicants for a PhD position working with Alexander Dürre. You will conduct research within the field of non-parametric and multivariate statistics. This covers developing new statistical methods and investigating its properties by simulations and theoretical considerations using tools from asymptotic statistics. The position comes with light teaching duties.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- MSc in Mathematics or Statistics completed before the start of the PhD position
- Profound knowledge of linear algebra, analysis and statistics
- Knowledge of asymptotic statistics is beneficial but not necessary
- Highly motivated, enthusiastic and creative researcher who is eager to learn
Additional Information
Conditions of employment
- We offer a full-time appointment of initially one year. After a positive evaluation of the progress of the research, teaching evaluations, personal capabilities and compatibility, the appointment will be extended for another three years.
- The gross salary ranges from €2.770,- per month in the first year to €3.539,- gross per month in the fourth year based on a full-time position (pay scale P).
- Additional funding is available to support travel to conferences and workshops abroad.

Teaching:
Teaching duties are about 2 lecture courses per academic year.
