FBK is a private research institution devoted to excellence in research in numerous disciplines and designated to the role of keeping the Autonomous Province of Trento in the mainstream of European and international research. Each research area is assigned to a specific research centre, of which there are eleven totals. The FBK Health Emergencies Centre has an extensive range of scientific expertise in the epidemiology and modelling of infectious diseases. Its main focuses are:
● mathematical and statistical modelling of infectious diseases transmission;
● epidemiology of emerging infectious diseases;
● evaluation of mitigation/containment policies;
● effect of population heterogeneity, contact patterns and human mobility on the spread of
infectious diseases;
Job Description
The purpose of FBK’s Tenure Track program is to offer high level professionals the opportunity of pursuing a structured career path in order to become a tenured researcher
contributing to the long- term strategy of the organisation. Within this framework, FBK is looking to cover the position with a dynamic, highly motivated, independent Mathematical Modeller of Infectious Diseases; the candidate will work within the Centre, reporting directly to the Director.
We have a number of research projects for which we are seeking statistical and mathematical modellers. The projects will require the development of statistical and mathematical models to analyse infectious disease data with complex structures for a wide range of applications.
The candidate is expected to work with and develop state-of-the-art statistical and mathematical methodology. The projects the successful applicants will undertake are assigned in agreement with the team, also by taking into account the applicant's interests and expertise.

Job requirements
● PhD in one of the following areas: mathematics, physics, population biology, infectious disease epidemiology, or a similarly quantitative discipline;
● Research experience in statistical and mathematical models of human infectious diseases, with relevant expertise in estimating i) key parameters regulating infection transmission; ii) risk factors; iii) effectiveness of interventions;
● A relevant record of publications in the domain of statistical and mathematical models of human infectious diseases, in high impact journals as first, last or corresponding
author.
● A strong interest in infectious diseases epidemiology;
● Ability to collate and analyse data, interpret and present results to a high standard using a range of specialised research techniques;
● Good knowledge and proficiency of the English language.
Additional requirements
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
● Good team working attitude;
● Good self-organization and autonomous operation.
Employment
Type of contract: Tenure Track position leading to an FBK 3nd Level Researcher (R3) permanent contract.
Duration: The maximum duration of the Tenure Track contract is up to 5 years (which may be reduced in accordance with the Committee assessment on the candidate's abilities and skills). If the final assessment of the Tenure Track experience is positive, the selected candidate for the tenure track position will be offered a permanent R3 contract.
Working hours: full time (38 h per week).
Gross annual salary: 41.400€ (plus objectives achievement bonus).
Start date: June 2024
Workplace: Povo, Trento (Italy).
