The University of Iceland Research Centre in Breiðdalsvík was established in 2021, developed from the Breiðdalssetur Research and Heritage Centre, a non-profit organisation founded in 2011. It is intended to be a centre for research, in particular geological research. It is housed in the Gamla Kaupfélagið building. The director will be an employee of the University of Iceland, based at the Research Centre in Breiðdalsvík. The Centre operates in Breiðdalsvík and it is assumed that the director will work there.
The University of Iceland's Institute of Regional Research Centres is a group of 11 independent research centres across Iceland. Main tasks
As well as independent research, the director is responsible for overseeing all operations at the Centre, its finances and day-to-day management. The director organises research and collaborative projects, is responsible for planning, and manages grant applications. The director must be able to supervise postgraduate students and perform other teaching duties at the university level. The Centre will work closely with the University of Iceland Faculty of Earth Sciences on research and teaching, in particular teaching on geology field trips, in accordance with agreements between the Faculty and the Centre.
