Offer Description
Do you dream of working at the leading edge of technological innovation? In a career where your ideas not only take shape, but also help to shape the future?
This is your chance to let your curiosity and practical insights shape the future of sustainable technology.
SINTEF is looking for a Research Scientist/Senior Research Scientist who can literally bring that extra spark to our team. We’re talking about high-temperature plasma technology and metals production.
Is this your kind of playground? If so, read on!
In a world of constant flux, and with a major EU-funded project on the horizon, we’re hoping that you can become part of our team, striving hard together to make a real difference.
We appreciate that no-one can be an expert on Day 1. But perhaps you have experience from the smelting sector? Maybe you are familiar with equipment design and development? Perhaps your main interest is in practical application? Or maybe you’ve just completed your studies and are eager to transform your theoretical knowledge into practical skills and experience?
We believe that you are in the best position to decide on the relevance of your education and experience. The key things for us are your eye for new opportunities, your willingness to learn, and your commitment to exploring new horizons. And that your pulse races a little faster when you hear about high-temperature processes, plasma and metals production.
Are you still reading this? You’re melting our hearts!
So, here are a few practical details. What will you be doing as a research scientist with us?
Well, there’s no fast or easy answer to that question. Here at SINTEF, no two days are the same.

- Master Degree or equivalent
- You’ll be getting close up and personal with plasma processes and process awareness.
- You’ll get to work closely with our skilful researchers, engineers and technicians in the use and maintenance of plasma equipment.
- You’ll be designing, building and breathing life into innovative business opportunities in the field of plasma technology.
- And, of course, you’ll be practising your project management skills and wielding your magic as a salesperson.
- Finally, and by no means least: you’ll be performing analyses, writing reports and publishing your results in scientific articles.
How much more exciting can it get?
So, how many more reasons do you need to come and join our team? Well, here are a few:
- You’ll be working in an environment where admitting that you don’t know all the answers is just the first step on the road to more knowledge – and where we all support each other towards achieving our common goals.
- You’ll get to be part of a world-leading research team with colleagues who are just as motivated and committed as you are, and where everyone contributes to the advance of technology for a better society.
- Your day-to-day work will offer a healthy balance between theoretical and practical work. You’ll spend time both in the lab and in front of your screen and follow projects right from concept to implementation.
- Your ambitions for personal and professional development are met not merely with positivity, but with applause.
Isn’t this music to your ears?
If so, send us your application and CV today!
We’re looking forward to getting to know you better.
About our research team
SINTEF’s research team ‘Process Metallurgy and Raw Materials’ is organised within the Department of Metals Production and Processing at SINTEF Industry. Our research is focused mainly in fields related to silicon, ferroalloys and steel, but also involves other metals. Our objective is to support the green transition by developing sustainable and climate-friendly methods of metals production. We are involved in a broad spectrum of research work, from basic studies to more practically-oriented R&D linked to industrial applications. Much of our work is carried out in collaboration with Norwegian and overseas partners and includes contributions to projects funded by the EU. We operate globally-recognised laboratories that offer opportunities for experimental work both at laboratory and pilot scale.
