Offer Description

A Research Assistant is required to support research activity in the field of dairy systems research. Post quota abolition, grass-based dairy production systems will predominate in Ireland, but as land will be the main
limiting resource, individual farmers will be required to expand on a limited land bank. The main aim of the research at UCD Lyons Farm is to develop a blueprint for sustainable high output grass-based spring milk production systems. The focus in such a system will be on maximising milk/milk solids output from the existing land holding which involves high output from individual cows within permitted stocking rates. This will occur most efficiently through maximising the use of grazed grass/home grown forage in the system and the strategic use of supplementation thereafter.
