Offer Description
The mission will be to synthesize uranium complexes with simple, compatible salts for study by electrocatalysis. The complexes will then be analyzed in detail by electrochemistry against several substrates to elucidate the mechanism of water reduction in the presence of uranium in these low oxidation states. The electrochemical studies will be complemented by chemical mechanistic studies to synthesize and characterize reaction intermediates and study their role in electrocatalysis. Routine characterizations will include X-ray diffraction, magnetism, EPR, NMR, UV-Vis-NIR and infrared/Raman spectroscopies.
The post-doc (F/H) will take part in the operational management of the research group. In particular, this will involve supervising masters and bachelor students, and ensuring that the synthesis room runs smoothly and according to the recommendations made by the funding bodies and laboratory management.
- Develop organic synthesis of salts compatible with electrochemistry
- Synthesize uranium complexes in these low valences.
- Analyze complexes electrochemically in stationary and catalytic regimes in the presence of water and various substrates.
- Synthesize possible reaction intermediates and characterize them by the usual techniques used routinely in the laboratory: X-ray diffraction, magnetism, EPR, NMR, UV-Vis-NIR and infrared/Raman spectroscopies.
- Monitor scientific developments related to the research topic.
- Prepare written reports and communicate results according to the recommendations proposed by the funder.
- Participate in research seminars.
- Write up research results in scientific documents suitable for patent registration or publication.
- Supervise masters and bachelor students in the research group.
- Ensure the proper maintenance and operation of the synthesis rooms by the recommendations of the funding bodies and laboratory management.
- Participate in the maintenance of research group and laboratory equipment
The post-doctoral fellow will work in the LCM (UMR 9168) at Ecole Polytechnique, a unit with a staff of around 35. The research themes developed in this laboratory are at the molecule-metal interface and concern the reactivity of coordination complexes and their use in catalysis. All aspects, from the most fundamental to the most applied, are involved. Part of the laboratory's research programs are carried out in collaboration with international academic groups (Germany, Holland, UK, USA...). The laboratory benefits from the advantages of the Ecole Polytechnique campus, in the heart of the Saclay plateau, renowned for its scientific excellence, and therefore offers a pleasant working environment.

Additional Information
This postdoctoral fellowship is funded by a research collaboration with an industrial company, and we are looking for highly motivated candidates with a PhD in molecular electrochemistry and/or molecular inorganic chemistry. The candidate (F/H) should be well trained in inert atmosphere manipulations and have strong skills in molecular electrochemistry. Good knowledge of standard inorganic spectroscopy (X-ray, NMR, UV-Vis... etc) will be a plus for a good understanding of the subject. For specific knowledge of magnetism and EPR spectroscopy, training courses will be offered by the research group. The candidate will benefit from a highly motivating and friendly scientific environment in a research group with around ten PhD students (F/H) and post-docs (F/H). The candidate (F/H) will also be expected to take part in the work and life of the group, and to be willing and happy to train undergraduate and graduate students.
