Offer Description
One post-doctoral position is available to work within the scope of the Center for Research in Mathematical Sciences Applied to Industry (CeMEAI), one of the Research, Innovation and Dissemination Centers (RIDCs) supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). CeMEAI is hosted by the University of São Paulo's Institute of Mathematical and Computer Sciences (ICMC-USP) in São Carlos, Brazil, and headed by Prof José Alberto Cuminato.
The fellow will develop integer optimization models and solution methods for production planning problems in the food industry and logistical problems in the sugarcane industry. As he/she will have to deal with the integrated lot scheduling and distribution problem with the perishable items, there is a need to synchronize scarce resources among multiple production lines, therefore he/she must consider scheduling harvest fronts, determining their harvesting areas based on available capacities and transportation. Novel mathematical models will be developed or extended to deal with these problems and solution methods based on problem decomposition. However, exploring optimization methods hybridized with machine learning techniques is crucial to achieving good solutions to the problems under study.
Profile: Exceptional scientific performance, knowledge of operational research and high level of autonomy. Candidates must demonstrate programming and optimization software skills. Candidates must have got their PhD in the last 7 years.
Preferred profile: Published papers in the area of research (mathematical modeling and development of heuristics).
Application: Please send your application before March 20, 2024 to Prof. Maristela Oliveira dos Santos (mari@icmc.usp.br), who will be supervisor for this project. Please indicate “post-doctoral application – Operations Research” in the subject. Applications should include CV (pdf), statement of research interests, and two contacts for recommendation letters (pdf).
This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 9,047.40 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
