The Institute of Epigenetics and Stem Cells (IES) is looking for a highly motivated Postdoc interested in investigating repetitive elements in the control of cell identity.
Fertilisation of an oocyte by the sperm results in the generation of a totipotent zygote, which has the inherent ability to form a new organism. This is followed by epigenetic reprogramming of both parental genomes, which includes heterochromatin formation and activation of repetitive elements. The functional significance of this is largely not understood, yet, recent evidence indicates that this remodelling underlies cellular plasticity. Importantly, repetitive elements are often found misregulated in degenerative diseases, during ageing or in cancer. Thus, understanding their biological relevance is of fundamental importance.

Your tasks
The successful candidate will study how repetitive elements regulate basic chromatin processes including transcription and replication in stem cells.
The approaches used involve manipulation of large datasets, screening design, NGS, high-throughput gene editing and clonal analysis of gene expression to understand genome reprogramming and transcriptional regulation during development.
Working language is English. We offer a well-equipped, international and scientifically stimulating environment for postdoctoral training.
Your profile
- Ph.D in molecular cell biology with a solid training in molecular life sciences and chemistry with at least 2 years of experience after obtaining doctoral degree.
- Previous hands-on experience in molecular biology including scRNA-seq and scATAC-seq library preparation, DNA and RNA modifications and Crispr-Cas9 screening design
- Previous work on mouse and human tissues and cell culture as well as FACS
- Full command of English, written and spoken
- Track-record proven by 2 first author publications
- Experience in implementing novel genome-wide protocols and screening for the identification of transcription factors will be a plus
