Offer Description
The project ICELESS (Ice Control Enabled via a Low-Energy Smart System) has the overall aim to satisfy, for the first time and simultaneously, anti-icing, ice identification and de-icing needs by combining nanotechnologies, smart sensors, high-frequency vibrations, adaptive electronics and artificial intelligence. Focusing on the industrial needs, the research outcomes will lead to an advanced Ice Protection System (IPS) which aims to protect ice-critical surfaces of mechanical structures, reduce the energy demand and overcome the lack of application flexibility and adaptation of current anti-/de-icing solutions. ICELESS allows to fill the gap between legacy IPSs (currently used) and the novel IPS boosting the progress needed to meet the net-zero carbon emission goal by 2050 and avoiding hazards still affecting the air transport. To achieve its aims, ICELESS bring together world-leading researchers with different, but complementary, backgrounds to cohesively address all the facets of the project. In fact, ICELESS is carried out in collaboration with The University of Manchester, National Research Council of Italy, Polytechnic University of Turin, and University of Naples “Federico II”. In detail, the research activity concerns the design of an intelligent actuator control device intended for ice protection systems for electric aircraft. The same device will also be applied in other areas (e.g. green hydrogen). The research activity to be carried out, appropriately supervised, involves the development of multidisciplinary skills, especially in the electronics, transducers and machine learning fields. The activity will take place at the Department of Industrial Engineering of the Università degli Studi di Napoli "Federico II", Naples, Italy Link to the competition notice: http://www.dii.unina.it/page.php?tabella=livello3&id_livello=674&flag=p… PLEASE NOTE that the competition notice is written in Italian, therefore, in case of interest, interested people are invited to send email to: asmlab.unina@gmail.com in order to receive info useful to submit the application properly. |
