Offer Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate (m/f/d) with a M.Sc. degree in Immunology, Molecular Medicine, Biology, or related fields and a strong practical research background. Experience in immunology research or bioinformatics data analysis are desired but not essential. The candidate should have high scientific standards and be excited to join a growing team of international researchers in a dynamic working environment. Excellent written and spoken English skills are mandatory.

Research group: The Diny lab focuses on myeloid cell biology, in particular the role of eosinophils and macrophages in tissue homeostasis and disease. We identified the environmental sensor and transcription factor AHR as a key factor that drives eosinophil adaptation and function in the intestine (PMID: 35238865). Our group uses genetic tools and novel technologies to understand the interactions between immune cells in the tissue context and how inflammation or infection alter the behaviour and function of myeloid cells. Our new lab is an exciting place to grow as a junior researcher with hands-on training in novel techniques. We are embedded in the major immunology research hub in Bonn with access to state-of-the-art facilities.

The project aims to understand how eosinophil function is modified by local tissue environment. Eosinophils contribute to diseases like asthma, but also promote tissue regeneration after injury. How these different functions are controlled is unclear. Genetically modified in vivo models and in vitro cell culture systems will be used to study which local factors drive eosinophil adaptation, how the transcriptome is reprogrammed and how eosinophils function in the tissue and disease context. Advanced flow-cytometric, imaging, and single cell sequencing studies will be combined with bioinformatic tools to answer these questions.

We offer a salary according to German salary scale TV-L and supplementary benefits according to the VBL pension plan. A subsidized public transport ticket (Jobticket) is available.
