Offer Description

INSA Rennes is the largest public engineering school in Brittany. It welcomes 2106 students and apprentices. More than 360 engineers, 60 masters students and 40 PhDs graduate each year. With 8 teaching departments, including 7 engineering specialities and 1 apprenticeship, and 6 research laboratories, INSA employs around 540 public-sector staff (teacher-researchers, lecturers, administrative support staff) and more than 70 part-time employees from companies.

The structural engineering research group of LGCGM/INSA Rennes is hiring a research engineer contractual position (13-month fixed-term contract, starting in April).

The research undertaken by LGCGM (Civil and Mechanical Engineering Laboratory) focuses on the problems linked to the construction of bridges and the behavior of soils, materials or structures in areas linked to mechanical construction.

The activities of the research group concern the study of the performance and failures of structures under service or accidental loadings. The works carried out targets composite structures under mechanical loads. The general objective is to develop a fine-tuned model based on heavy experimental resources, and on the knowledge acquired in non-linear structural mechanics and the most advanced numerical techniques.

Since 2018, through the REEXPERIENCE project and the industrial ANR chair FREEINBTP, and multiple industrial collaborations, the group is investigating the field of timber-concrete construction, at the level of the element, and of the structure.  One example is the mechanical characterisation of the CLT-concrete slab system HOBOA performed through the thesis of Vanthet Ouch.

On-going projects lead the team to propose a 1-year mission dedicated to the numerical simulation of timber elements under complex actions : bending, shear, and warping.

The research engineer will join a strong thematic axis of 2 professors, 4 associate professors, 2 research engineers, 9 PhD students, 4 engineers and 2 technicians, recognized at the national and international level.

Mission – skills

The research engineer will join an integrated team with our industrial partner INGENOVA, composed of 2 research engineers, 2 engineers, and a doctoral student.  The applicant will follow on-going experimental activities and will take responsibility and charge of the numerical simulations of the tests, in order to deduce an analytical model of the resistance of the timber under combined actions, through an extensive numerical parametrical study.

The applicant will also participate in the dialogue with companies, and in the industrial transfer of the results of the research work.

Application procedure:

Applications must be sent at 14th of March at the latest.
Selected candidates will be invited to an interview at the end of March.
