Offer Description

The University of Bremen, Faculty of Geosciences, is offering a position for one

Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d)
(100 %, 13 TV-L)

limited for 3 years (according to §2 WissZeitVG)

in the area of fluid-mineral interactions.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic postdoctoral researcher with profound knowledge in the field of experimental geochemistry, in particular the interactions between aqueous solutions and rocks as well as redox reactions at elevated pressures and temperatures. Experience in the operation of hydrothermal autoclaves and the collection and evaluation of experimental data is expected.
You will be part of the petrology group in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Bremen. The position is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) as part of the SYNERGY project PROTOS "The role of silica in the dawn of life on our planet". The aim of the project is to simulate environmental conditions on the early Earth in experiments and to gain insights into abiotic reactions that could have played a role in the emergence of life. Particular attention will be paid to silica and carbon. Your task will be to design and conduct high-pressure/high-temperature experiments within Project PROTOS and thus support the project team in the development of theoretical concepts and numerical modeling.

Requirements

  • Completed scientific university degree (Master's level or Diploma) and completed PhD in geosciences, material sciences, or related physical science
  • Advanced knowledge in geochemistry, petrology, and mineralogy
  • Comprehensive apprehension of fluid-mineral interactions
  • Proven ability to conduct experimental studies at elevated pressures and temperatures
  • Applicants should have good English language skills, both oral and written, and enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary team
