Applications are open for 1 Research Studentship, within the framework of project ALAMO (Accurate Federated Learning with Uncertainty Quantification for DER Forecasting Applied to Power Grids Planning and Operation) 2022.15771.MIT, financed by national funds through FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC
Workplan: The ALAMO project aims to address the challenges posed by the increasing integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) into power grids while ensuring consumers’ privacy and accounting for uncertainties in forecasting models.
The selected candidate will contribute to several tasks that need to be developed in this phase of the project. More precisely:
- Development of forecasting algorithms for DERs using both centralized and federated paradigms.
- Development of a software platform to integrate existing and future forecasting algorithms.
- Integration of forecasting algorithms in downstream applications, e.g., quantification of LV grid hosting capacity.
- Assist the research team in producing reports and scientific presentations/publications.
Duration: The research fellowship(s) will have a duration of six months. It’s expected to begin on 02/2024. The research fellowship can be renewed for an additional six months based on the success of the developed tasks, budget availability, and project duration

Admission Requirements:
- to hold a bachelor or master degree and be enrolled at a course that does not award an academic degree and it is integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, performed in association or cooperation with one or several R&D units;
- not to exceed with this contract, including the possible renovations, an accumulated period of two years in this type of studentship, continuously or with interruptions.
The candidate must also:
- Hold a Master’s degree in energy engineering or a related discipline
- Be fluent in Portuguese since the position may require interactions with end-users in Portugal
- Have good English written and oral skills
- Have very good analytical skills
- Have previous research experience
Additional Information
Monthly maintenance allowance: According to the values for Research Fellowships awarded by FCT in Portugal https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_2023.pdf), the amount of the monthly maintenance allowance is € 1199.64, being the payment method an option of the Fellow by Wire Transfer.

- Motivation Letter (30%)
- Individual Interview (as a tie-break procedure, to be conducted online)
