Offer Description

Up to full-time position of adjunct II in Japanese language in the Faculty of Languages and Cultures at the University of Iceland is open for application. Japanese language and culture are taught as beginner level studies, as a one-year diploma program and for a BA degree. Within the department, courses are taught in listening and pronunciation, grammar, writing etc. The program also offers courses in Japanese culture and history. The first two years in the BA program are taught at the University of Iceland and the third year spent on exchange abroad, usually in Japan. The languages of instruction are English and Japanese. 

Main tasks

  • Teaching in Japanese language in diploma and BA studies. The courses start at the beginner level
  • Up to 90% of the work is teaching and exam work
  • At least 10% of the work consists of diverse tasks, including management and projects for the discipline

  • Native or near-native fluency in Japanese
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • Teaching experience and it is desirable that the experience is at university level

  • Interest in developing new teaching methods

Wages according to the current collective agreement by the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs and Félag háskólakennara.

It is desirable that applicants are able to start working on July 1, 2024.
