3-YEAR RESEARCHER POSITION ON THE EFFICIENT INTERACTIVE COMPUTATION OF LARGE GWAS

FREE UNIVERSITY OF BOZEN-BOLZANO (UNIBZ), ITALY



The Database Systems Group at UNIBZ invites applications for a PostDoc position in the area of Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS). The research consists in developing efficient data models, index structures and algorithms to dynamically retrieve significant associations between genetic variants and phenotypes for arbitrary subsets of the population cohort stored in the database. The developed solution should significantly reduce the computational burden while maintaining high accuracy, thereby supporting explorative data analytics over dynamically generated subsets of the data.



The research work is part of a joint project with the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, the Technical University of Munich, and EURAC Research. Research visits at the partner institutions are foreseen.



We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a solid background in databases and a deep interest to develop algorithmic solutions for GWAS in an interdisciplinary team.  In addition, good language skills in English, oral and written, are expected.



The initial appointment is for one year with the expectation of extension up to a total of three years given satisfactory performance.
