Offer Description

The research group of Prof. Florian I. Schmidt at the Institute of Innate Immunity of the University of Bonn is currently offering

Postdoctoral / PhD / technician positions in Molecular Immunology

The Schmidt lab takes an novel approach to study the cell biology of the innate immune system: We generate custom-made nanobodies to interfere with and to visualize activation antiviral signaling pathways in highly specific ways. Our tools render the fascinating signaling complexes of the innate immune system accessible to systematic analysis in an unprecedented way. In the upcoming projects, we aim to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of antiviral NLRP1 inflammasomes as well as gasdermin pore formation, including fundamental research and potential novel therapeutic avenues. Upcoming research projects will define pathways that negatively regulate inflammation. We address mechanistic questions from multiple perspectives using cell biological, biochemical, immunological, and virological approaches in combination with advanced imaging techniques and protein engineering.

We offer:

  • Challenging projects at the interface of cell biology, immunology, and virology
  • A stimulating, multidisciplinary research environment in the Cluster of Excellence ‘ImmunoSensation2’ and the Institute of Innate Immunity at the University of Bonn
  • Salary will be according to the German salary scale TV-L
  • Graduate students will be integrated into the ‘International Immunology Training Program Bonn’ (IITB)

Our requirements:

  • Enthusiasm for research in a collaborative environment
  • Strong interest in solving fundamental or applied biological problems
  • Commitment to the research project
  • Experience in cell biology, biochemistry, immunology, and/or virology  (PhD / Master / technician apprenticeship or equivalent)
  • Excellent degrees and track record
  • Very good communication skills (English)

Application

  • The University of Bonn is an equal opportunity employer.
  • Full applications should include a brief statement on research interests, a CV, list of publications (if applicable), and contact information for two referees, compiled into a single pdf file.
