Offer Description

The Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences is a global leader across a range of sport and physical activity domains. We have been named the 2023 Sports University of the Year by @thetimes and we are proud to be ranked 2nd in the UK, in the Complete University Guide 2023, and 10th in the 2021 UK Research Excellence Framework (REF). We are also a QS World Top 100 department for sport related subjects. We have recently moved to new premises in Durham City, where we enjoy a brand-new suite of offices, flexible meeting and research spaces, and a new laboratory.

The Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences offers a vibrant, innovative and friendly academic environment for talented individuals to flourish, whose research and teaching interests and experiences align with and extend the existing strengths of the department. As a key part of our growth, we seek to appoint a talented individual to the role of either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor and we welcome applications from those with research and teaching interests in sport and exercise physiology, kinesiology or a related field.

We are looking to appoint a high-quality, intellectually curious, and collegial individual who wants to join a multi-disciplinary team and would actively and meaningfully contribute to the strategic development of our recently established department. We are particularly eager to hear from applicants whose research interests and plans will bolster the department's ability to:

  • Produce world-changing sport and exercise sciences research challenging inequalities and informing progress towards social justice, health and wellbeing.
  • Strengthen partnerships with research funders and policy and practice-based users, enabling sustained income streams and progressive impact.
  • Lead the development and use of inclusive research and impact practices within and beyond the sport and exercise sciences globally.

Candidates must be able to deliver teaching in the areas of sport and exercise physiology, and quantitative research methods. The successful candidate will also be required to be an excellent citizen in contributing to the administration and management of the department, undertaking leadership and management roles appropriate to their career stage.
