Offer Description
The postdoctoral fellow will participate to the Fine4Cast project funded by the National Research Agency, as part of the PEPR TASE. The objective of the project is to improve very short-term forecasts (from a few minutes to a few days) of production and consumption of renewable energies (wind, solar) on a local scale. The Fine4Cast project is based on an integrated approach of the modeling chain, from weather observations and forecasts to the use of forecasts for decision-making. The position is being offered as part of the weather forecasting work package. In this context, the postdoctoral fellow will work on the development and evaluation of a new version, running at a very high spatio-temporal resolution, of the probabilistic forecast system operational at Météo-France, using the AROME model.
The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to different aspects, such as:
- developing a version of the AROME ensemble forecast with a spatial resolution of 750m, possibly including improvements to the model physics and perturbation methods; - implement, in collaboration with the project partners, an innovative evaluation method adapted to very high resolution forecasts;
- provide project partners with weather forecasts and post-processing adapted to their needs;
- contribute to project valorization and dissemination activities: participation in project meetings (one or two per year), national and international conferences, writing of reports and scientific publications.
The National Center for Meteorological Research (CNRM) is a Joint Research Unit (UMR) with dual supervision from Météo-France and CNRS. The CNRM conducts research in conjunction with the missions of Météo-France and other organizations, notably the CNRS and universities. The CNRM participates in major international or European scientific programs in its field of expertise.
The postdoctoral fellow will be part of the Predictability team, located on the Météopole site in Toulouse, France. The team's research mainly focuses on the development of operational ensemble forecasting systems at Météo-France and their uses by different users.
