Job description:PhD Student (f/m/d) Sorption efficiency of crystal surfaces
With cutting-edge research in the fields of ENERGY, HEALTH and MATTER, around 1,500 employees from more than 70 nations at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) are committed to mastering the great challenges facing society today.
The Institute of Resource Ecology performs research to protect humans and the environment from hazards caused by pollutants resulting from technical processes that produce energy and raw materials.
The Department of Reactive Transport is looking for a PhD Student (f/m/d) Sorption efficiency of crystal surfaces.
In the second year, it is possible to increase working hours to 75%.
Your tasks
The sorption efficiency of trivalent actinides/lanthanides on nanostructured crystal surfaces is investigated in a research network using correlative microscopic methods:
# Crystal surface dissolution experiments, sorption experiments
# Surface analysis with interferometry microscopy, spectromicroscopy
# Flow experiments, tomographic analysis of the flow field and sorption efficiency of porous materials with positron emission tomography
Your profile
# University degree (MSc) in geosciences, chemistry, physics or a related field
# Experience in microscopic analysis (e.g., SEM, Raman, polarization microscopy)
# Experience in experimental work (e.g., dissolution, precipitation or sorption experiments)
# Willingness to work in a radiochemical laboratory and to work with radionuclides
# Very good written and spoken English; knowledge of German is an advantage
