Offer Description
A Research Fellowship (BI) (Reference REQUIMTE 2024-06) on the project 20022.05543.PTDC – Smart surfactant-based nanovectors for RNA anti-viral therapeutics (Smart4Vir), supported by national funds by FCT/MCTES, is available at REQUIMTE.

Admission requirements:
Candidates should have a BSc degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related scientific areas with final score of 15 (fifteen) or higher and be enrolled in a MSc course in the areas of Chemistry or Biochemistry or in a non-degree course taught by a higher education institution in collaboration with an R&D unit. Candidates should have experience in organic synthesis.
In case the BSc degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007 of October 12th, and all formalities established therein must be complied with at the signature of the fellowship contract.
Working plan: Establishment of synthetic routes for the obtention of different families of amino acid-based surfactants as potential siRNA delivery systems. Purification and structural elucidation.

Work Place: The work will be conducted at LAQV/REQUIMTE, ORCHIDS Unit, under the supervision of Prof. Maria Luísa Cardoso do Vale and Doctor Sandra Goreti Ferreira da Silva.
Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have duration of 6 months, possibly renewable for equal periods, starting on April 2024.
Monthly stipend:
Monthly stipend is 990,98 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atu…). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.
Selection criteria:
For the selection of the candidate the following components will be evaluated (with the corresponding weighing factor):
a) academic and scientific curriculum (50%);
b) adequacy of professional experience to the proposed work plan (40%);
c) motivation letter (10%).
In the case of admitted candidates whose evaluation does not differ more than 10% from that obtained by the best positioned candidate, the jury will interview these candidates. In this situation, the value of the interview is 30%.
The maximum score is 20 out of 20.
The jury will not award the current scholarship to candidates with a final classification lower than 10 out of 20.

Publicity and communication of results: The ranking of applications will be published at a visible and public area of REQUIMTE facilities, and all candidates will be informed by email about the result of their application.
