Offer Description

  • Part time, 0.6 FTE fixed term until 31 December 2027 with the potential for an extension subject to funding
  • Based at the University Centre for Rural Health in Lismore
  • Base Salary $118, 390 - $140,586(Lecturer - pro-rata) or $145,023 - $167,221 (Senior Lecturer - pro-rata) + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

This position will be with the Rural Clinical School, University Centre for Rural Health, Northern Rivers, Lismore, at the University of Sydney, with the Sydney Medical School and the Faculty of Medicine and Health. The UCRH provides multidisciplinary health education and research program that supports clinical education, workforce development and translation of research into practice to support regional health.

The UCRH education program encompasses the disciplines of Allied Health, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry and Medicine, and provides students with clinical placement opportunities, structured learning programs in a multi-disciplinary environment, and an immersion in the elements of rurality and social equity. The education program is delivered on behalf of the Commonwealth's Rural Health Multi-disciplinary Training program. The research program of UCRH includes strengths in Aboriginal health research, environmental health research, public health research, and health services research.

The incumbent will be required to contribute to fostering a culture of excellence through your own expertise and through guiding academic staff and students towards success.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

Lecturer (Level B)

  • play a leadership/liaison role in providing research education, supervision and mentorship for the UCRH Doctor of Medicine (DM) medical students
  • conducting and assessing suitable projects and assisting supervisors for each annual cohort of MD students, and may include supervising or co-supervising student projects
  • conduct relevant research that is aligned with the research priorities of the UCRH and contribute to the overall research education program at UCRH
  • maintain a research profile which meets the University expectations and standards and enhances the reputation of the School, including publication in peer reviewed international journals.
  • fostering a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled

In addition to the above, the Senior Lecturer (Level C) will

  • contribute to the strategic direction of the Centre, in particular to research education activities
  • contribute to the research profile of the University, including success in competitive research grants and other research income generation
  • create and maintain productive links between the University and its clinical partners, including the Local Health District, primary health and community partners.

About you

As a Lecturer (Level B) you will have:

  • doctorate or PhD or similar higher degree in a relevant field (or near completion)
  • significant current experience working in a health setting in the Northern Rivers region and/or proven ability to apply clinical expertise to inform research questions and research methods
  • demonstrated excellence in research, with a broad range of research methodologies
  • demonstrated success in supporting the academic endeavour, in particular engaging in research/scholarship and providing a student enabling environment.
  • demonstrated success in organisational skills with multiple stakeholders
  • knowledge and experience in regional and rural health (preferred)

In addition to the above the Senior Lecturer (Level C) will:

  • have established network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the School/ Faculty and University
  • be acknowledged as playing a major role currently in health in a rural setting (preferred), for example by having a well-regarded leadership role in a clinical area and/or a notable network of connections and strategic alliances
  • be acknowledged at a national level as influential in expanding knowledge within health and/or in research and/or education
  • have significant experience in research and/or education.

This position is based in Northern Rivers footprint of UCRH, and the incumbent will be based predominantly in the Lismore office of UCRH.
