About the role

University College London (UCL) wishes to appoint a Research Fellow in Digital Twin and AR/VR for Heritage Buildings. The post holder will be based at The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction at the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, a world-leading faculty ranked #1 in the world for Built Environment studies and #1 in the UK for its research environment (REF 2014). The post holder will Join our ambitious team at UCL for the INHERIT project, a pioneering initiative launched to revolutionize the sustainability, inclusivity, and energy efficiency of Europe's historic buildings. This is a 42-month project, and the position should start as soon as possible.

About You (Key requirements)

Over the course of 42 months on the project, the successful candidate will contribute to addressing key challenges in energy, circularity, climate resilience, and accessibility, leveraging IoT, AI, and big data analytics. Your work will not only enhance individual heritage sites but also drive socially innovative interventions at the urban level across eight EU cultural sites. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to impact the future of Europe's cultural heritage, aligning with the New European Bauhaus principles and transforming the preservation landscape of historic buildings into sustainable and resilient icons.

The appointee is required to have a PhD in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with a focus on sustainable construction, heritage preservation, or digital technologies. They will have experience of working in research and publishing academic papers and demonstratable experience in heritage building design and renovation, particularly using AR-VR interfaces, H-BIM, or Digital Twins technologies.

They will also have exceptional project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple aspects of a research project and meet tight deadlines. As well as advanced technical skills in architectural design, particularly in the context of heritage buildings, including proficiency in AR-VR technology, H-BIM, and Digital Twins. The successful candidate will show excellent interpersonal skills, with the capacity to build and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including academic colleagues, industry partners, and project consortium members.
