Duties and responsibilities
- Setting up manipulative ecological experiments in the field and/or laboratory setting.
- Using laboratory techniques associated with plant and soil microbial research.
- Performing statistical data analyses, preferably in R.
- Using molecular techniques to characterize soil microbial communities, measuring root exudation and metabolome, and/or using stable isotopes.
- Writing and publishing research papers as a leading/first author in internationally recognized journals.
- Synthesizing literature, producing graphics and presenting information effectively at conferences and other meetings.
- Collaboration and communication in an internationally diverse scientific community.
- Encouraging inclusive and supportive work environment.
Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification.
Required experience
- Thorough understanding of plant interactions with soil microbial communities, eco-evolutionary dynamics in plant-soil interactions and their consequences for ecosystem functioning and ecosystem response to global change.
- Experience in setting up manipulative ecological experiments in the field and/or laboratory setting.
- Experience in laboratory techniques associated with plant and soil microbial research.
- Competence in statistical data analysis, preferably in R.
- A driving licence valid in Estonia will be an advantage.
- Experience in plant identification and vegetation surveys will be an advantage.
Required language skills
Excellent command of English.
Personal qualities
- Willingness to learn new techniques to perform interdisciplinary research.
- Willingness to initiate tasks and projects and take a lead.
Additional information on remuneration
From 2700 euros (gross) per month depending on work experience and qualifications.

This position is related to EU-funded research PlantSoilAdapt, offering an opportunity to work within a vibrant and internationally recognised scientific community and develope interdisciplinary skills. The main collaborators in the project are Richard Bardgett (the University of Manchester, UK), Rothamsted Research, UK; Honor Prentice (University of Lund, Sweden) and Pierre Petriacq (INRAE & University of Bordeaux, France).
