Offer Description
The Research Group on AgroICT & Precision Agriculture (https://www.grap.udl.cat/en/) of the Universitat de Lleida and Agrotecnio CERCA Center offers a PhD student position in one of its research projects.
PROJECT TITLE: Precision crop protection to achieve European Green Deal goals in pesticide use efficiency and reduction using Precision Agriculture techniques (PAgPROTECT) - Ref. PID2021-126648OB-I00
This thesis will work on the application of sensing systems such as LiDAR, RGB-D cameras and photogrammetry, among others, in the framework of Precision Agriculture and precision crop protection (3D canopy characterization, application efficiency, spray drift monitoring, etc.). Assessing the spatial and temporal variability of fields and orchards will allow the efficiency of agricultural operations to be improved. The specific objectives within Precision Agriculture may be adjusted considering the needs of the project as well as the interests and skills of the candidate.

Additional Information
- Contract awarded for 1 year, it can be anually renewed 2 years more up to a maximum DURATION OF 3 YEARS.
- Gross salary (Real Decreto 103/2019): around 17.500 €/year (1st and 2nd year); around 18.900 €/year (3rd year).
- Free registration for doctoral thesis tutoring.
- Possibility of research stay abroad and participation in conferences.
- Joining a consolidated research group with an international network.
- Education (bachelor's and master's studies in agricultural engineering, industrial engineering, computer science, mechatronics engineering, or similar).
- Experience in matters of precision agriculture, photonic sensors (LiDAR, RGB-D, photogrammetry, etc.) as well as other technologies, methods and tasks relevant to the project.
- Research merits (publications, assistance to scientific conferences, experience in research, etc.).
- Programming skills (Python, Matlab, C+, or similar).
