Job Description
The National University of Singapore is excited to extend an invitation for applications to the position of Research Assistant (Data Engineer) with the RESET Program. This program is focused on cardiovascular disease and is affiliated with the National University Health System (NUHS) and NUS Cardiovascular Disease Translational Research Programme.
The RESET program aims to be a pioneering force in cardiovascular research, with a focus on translational studies that can bring immediate impact to patient care and well-being. The program needs a Research Assistant (Data Engineer) who will be responsible for developing and maintaining a robust research data platform.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on large, complex datasets, integrating various forms of healthcare data, including electronic health records, clinical test results, molecular readouts, and more. The primary objective is to establish a large scale data infrastructure as a critical foundation piece, which will be integral for ongoing and future research projects.
Appointments will be on a 2-year contract in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Data Platform Development: Design, build, and maintain a scalable data platform tailored for cardiovascular research projects.
- Data Integration: Merge data from multiple sources, including electronic health records, clinical tests, genomic data, and wearable data ensuring integrity and usability.
- Data Quality: Implement methods for quality data collection and validation to ensure accuracy and completeness of data.
- Data Security: Protect databases and archives from unauthorized access and data loss, adhering to institutional and legal standards.
- Data Sharing & Curation: Establish protocols for responsible data sharing and curation within and outside the research team.
- Technical Support: Assist research teams in the daily use of data systems and facilitate data extraction when needed.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Continuously assess the performance of data systems and recommend enhancements or upgrades.
Qualifications
- BSc/BA in Computer Science, Analytics, Biomedical Informatics, or a related field.
- Proficient in one or more programming languages (e.g. Java, Scala, Rust, Go, C/C++, Python).
- Familiarity with modern data engineering tools such as Spark, Delta Lake, Iceberg.
- Prior experience in cloud computing (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Excellent communication skills to facilitate cross-disciplinary collaborations.
- Strong understanding of data administration and management functions (collection, analysis, distribution, etc.)
- Familiarity with healthcare data a plus.
- Familiarity with machine learning and artificial intelligence a plus.
- A strong analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills.
