Your personal space:

The Faculty of Psychology consists of the Dean's Office and the Student Service Centre as well as - the Institute of Cognition, Emotion and Methods in Psychology, - the Institute of Clinical and Health Psychology, - the Institute of Work, Economic and Social Psychology, - and the Institute of Developmental and Educational Psychology, - as well as the Outpatient Clinic for Research, Teaching and Practice. There are currently around 3,500 psychology students enrolled on Bachelor's, Master's and PhD programmes, who attend almost 200 courses per semester, which are taught and supervised by 220 teaching staff.

As an animal keeper, you will work at the Institute for Cognition, Emotion and Methods of Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology in the SCAN Unit (Social, Cognitive, and Affective Neuroscience Unit; https://scan-psy.univie.ac.at) and at the MRI Centre with Prof. Claus Lamm.

This is what you will do:

  • Work as a dog trainer working with positive reinforcement with experience in this field
  • Interest in science in general and in particular in comparative research (dog - human) in the areas of brain, cognition and behaviour
  • Responsible handling of highly sensitive equipment (MRI scanner, eye tracker)
  • Collaboration on research proposals (ability to do so documented e.g. through co-authorship and/or being mentioned in acknowledgements of proposals)
  • Collaboration on scientific publications - especially for descriptions of the examination and training methods (ability to do so documented e.g. through co-authorship and or being mentioned in acknowledgements)

This is part of your personality:

  • Experience with scientific work (e.g. contributions to experimental design and paradigms, MRI preprocessing, coding videos, data documentation, etc.)
  • Experience with fMRI methodology and training domestic dogs for examinations in the MRI scanner or comparable equipment (eye tracker, EEG, fNIRS, touch screens)
  • Experience in clicker training
  • Excellent written and spoken English (knowledge of German is desirable but not essential)
  • Open and resilient personality, good communication skills and conflict management in an interdisciplinary team with clear role allocations
  • Basic understanding of essential aspects of MRI methodology
  • Structured, independent way of working with good time management skills
  • Willingness to work weekends (irregular working hours)
