The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) is currently seeking applications for a scientific position in CMMI’s Centre for Marine and Maritime Policy Research and Regional Cooperation (CM2PR2C), located in Cyprus. This position offers fixed-term contracts with the possibility of renewal.

The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute:

The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) is a Centre of Excellence for marine and maritime research, innovation and technology development and has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program and matching funding from the Government of the Republic of Cyprus. The CMMI pulls together expertise from local universities, industry and international partners.

Centre for Marine and Maritime Policy Research and Regional Cooperation (CM2PR2C)

CM2PR2C conducts applied research on the broader fields of marine and maritime governance. Areas of interest include (but are not limited to) fisheries governance, sustainable coastal transitions, participatory governance, marine spatial planning, integrated coastal zone management, climate adaptation, nature-based solutions and sustainable fish consumption. The Centre seeks to contribute towards policy-making on marine and maritime issues and support the implementation of the EU’s Green Deal, whilst ensuring a sustainable and inclusive Blue Economy. It also seeks to promote and strengthen cooperation and dialogue on marine and maritime issues in the Eastern Mediterranean region and beyond.

Skills/Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Degree in one of the following principles: environmental or marine governance, environmental or marine social sciences, sociology, geography, environmental planning, or a closely related field
  • Skills and expertise relevant to the centre’s scope include, but are not limited to, social sciences and participatory methodologies, policy analysis and knowledge of relevant regulation.

Advantageous Qualifications:

  • PhD in Marine, Coastal or Fisheries Governance; Marine Social Sciences; or in a closely related field; or 3 years of relevant experience in these fields
  • Experience in project management
  • Good knowledge of the Greek language (written and verbal)
