CONTEXT & JOB DESCRIPTION

The Detector & Electronics Group in the Instrumentation Services and Development Division provides development and support capabilities in the fields of X-ray detectors and control electronics required for experimental stations and the accelerator complex.

You will join a collaboration project between the ESRF and several European partners to develop and produce two multi-element Germanium detectors for spectroscopy applications. You will inspect manufacturing equipment, assemble various components (X-ray sensors, electronics boards, mechanics, and electrical cryocooler), calibrate and characterize them. You will be technically supervised by the project leader and will interact with other staff from partner institutes for mechanics, electronics and software.

Your missions will be the following:

  • Assemble mechanical components, integrate electrical and electronic parts, and install hardware in appropriate vacuum enclosures;
  • Perform diagnostic tests of assembled goods;
  • Carry out detector characterization in a specialized laboratory;
  • Design specific tools and ensure their procurement;
  • Provide technical support and feedback to the project manager and partners.

EXPECTED PROFILE

  • You should hold a Technical/Academic degree (BTS, DUT, Bachelor or equivalent diploma worth at least 120 ECTS) in instrumentation, physical measurements, mechanics or electrotechnics;
  • Proven experience as an assembly technician or similar. Experience working in a clean room will be an asset;
  • Good general understanding of vacuum and physical measurements techniques;
  • Good hand-eye coordination to assemble small and/or fragile pieces into a final detector;
  • Ability to interact with multi-disciplinary staff and facility users;
  • Aptitude for team work and independently;
  • Well-organized, meticulous and methodical approach to the work;
  • Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF).

WORKING CONDITIONS

You will work in a clean-room environment.

Temporary contract of 6 months.

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
