Offer Description
Scientific advisor permanent position - returnee in the field of solid-state physics with a focus on experimental surface physics.
The candidate is a scientist, with an academic degree of Doctor of Science in Physics, who fulfills the requirements from point II. Decision of the Ministry of Science and Education on the criteria for approving the positions of returning scientists at public universities and public scientific institutes in the Republic of Croatia from August 30, 2018, and the Decision on amending the Decision from March 5, 2019.
The position is planned as part of the Department of the Center for Advanced Laser Techniques, within the Surfaces, Interfaces and 2D Materials Research Group. The candidate is expected to demonstrate expertise in the field of experimental surface physics and research on the structure, electronic, and magnetic properties of surfaces, two-dimensional materials, and related complex materials. The candidate is expected to have proficiency in surface-sensitive spectroscopic and microscopic experimental techniques such as (spin-resolved) ARPES, XPS, AES, absorption spectroscopy (NEXAFS and EXAFS), STM/STS, AFM, SEM/EDX, EELS, XMCD, LEED, and similar techniques is expected.
Mandatory conditions for scientific positions are prescribed by the Law on Higher Education and Scientific Activity, the Rulebook on the Conditions for Selection to Positions of the Institute of Physics and the Decision on the Criteria for Approving the Positions of Returned Scientists at Public Universities and Public Scientific Institutes in the Republic of Croatia from 30 of August 2018 and the Decision on amending the Decision of March 5, 2019.
Along with the application, it is necessary to attach evidence of meeting the mandatory requirements, a letter of motivation with a description of research interests and a short (up to 1 page) program of planned research and topics for the next 5 years, extensive curriculum vitae in which the applicant's strengths and experience are indicated, and the contact information of at least three unbiased scientists who can be asked for a qualified opinion on the candidate.
Additional preference will be given to candidates with experience in developing new experimental techniques and methods, publishing in top-tier journals, mentorship, experience in successful project proposal applications and leadership of successfully finished projects, received awards, and proven organizational skills.
Applicants who have obtained a higher education qualification outside Croatia must enclose the decision on the Recognition of a foreign higher education qualification issued by the Agency for Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Croatia or a certificate of submitted application for Recognition of a foreign higher education qualification by the Agency for Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Croatia.
