Selection process

The selection process of the best candidates will have a three-stage character:

First stage (based on documents):

Documents specified above should be sent as one compressed zip-file to prof. dr hab. Wojciech Florkowski (Wojciech.Florkowski@uj.edu.pl) before 28 March 2024, 23:59 CET. The message title and the attachment’s name should be of the form “PhD position opening, SPIN, Applicant’s full name”. The Selection Committee (with prof. dr hab. Wojciech Florkowski being the Chairman) selects short-listed candidates who will be interviewed by the Selection Committee (maximum 5 persons). The decision of the Selection Committee will be based on the Applicants’ grades obtained during the MSc studies, recommendation letters, scientific achievements, and other accomplishments in science (distinctions, awards, etc.).

Second stage (based on the interview with the Selection Committee):

The interviews will be held online or in person between April 2 and April 30, 2024. The applicants will be contacted in advance to fix the interview time. The same Selection Committee will decide about at most two candidates who will be recommended to take part in the entrance examination to the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences of the Jagiellonian University ( https://science.phd.uj.edu.pl/en_GB/ ).

If no candidate is selected for the entrance examination, the selection process is closed at this stage with no Ph.D. student funded by NCN.

Third stage (based on the result of the entrance examination to the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences of the Jagiellonian University) :

Participation (online or in person) of the recommended candidates in the entrance examination to the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences of the Jagiellonian University (shortly called below the exam). Details and deadlines are described here: https://science.phd.uj.edu.pl/en_GB/. The Applicants selected at the second stage are responsible for submitting their documents to the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences of the Jagiellonian University according to the recruitment schedule. The recruitment is expected to start in June 2024 and the candidates may obtain the final decision by July 2024.

The candidates who pass the entrance exam are eligible for the Doctoral School funding. The same Selection Committee decides to share the funds from the NCN grant among the candidates as the additional funding besides the Doctoral School funding.
