The Institute of Clinical Sciences is one of six Institutes within Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. We conduct research and education that puts people's health and quality of life in focus. We represent 16 different research areas and are divided into four sections.
The Institute of Clinical Sciences, Department of pediatrics has a variety of specialties included such as diabetes, endocrinology, oncology, cardiology, neurology, neonatology, nephrology, immunology. The department of pediatrics, is now searching for a postdoctor for research in projects that focus on brain health in various endocrine and metabolic diseases. The research group led by Professor Svetlana Lajic, studies brain and behaviour in endocrine and metabolic diseases.
As posdoctor will you have a broad role within the projects that focus on brain health in various endocrine and metabolic diseases. Our aim is to map brain structure, function and cognitive abilities in these patients on the long-term, especially in relation to their treatment and disease severity. The project is part of a national study and a collaborative project between University of Gothenburg and Karolinska Institutet.

Duties
You will have a broad role within the projects that focus on brain health in various endocrine and metabolic diseases. As a postdoctor, you will be working on analyzing already collected MRI and neuropsychological data focusing on primary adrenal insufficiency in adults, as well as contributing to the data acquisition, management and analysis of a novel project focusing on inborn errors of metabolism in children and adults. As part of the team you will also be involved in the development of new projects focusing on the brain and cognitive functioning in these patient groups.
Eligibility
To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made.
In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.
Assessment criteria
The applicant must have a PhD in a suitable field. Preferably you also have a background in cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience, neuropsychology or a related field. Experience with MRI data analyses of the brain is mandatory. Experience with the following neuroimaging software is preferred: FSL, FreeSurfer and SPM, or similar programs. Programming experience is also preferred (Python, Matlab, R and/or Bash).
We are looking for somebody with an open and curious mindset to explore rare diseases and the intersection between neuroscience, endocrinology and metabolism. You have an eye for scientific rigor and an interest in basic research questions as well as long-term patient well-being and functioning. Experience in acquiring and analyzing multimodal MRI data and neuropsychological data is mandatory as well as good social skills. Excellent knowledge in scientific writing and the English language is mandatory.
