Offer Description

Full job title: 2 PhD positions in theoretical quantum chemistry/physics at University of Groningen and University of Twente

We invite applications for two PhD positions, one with Dr. Remco Havenith at the University of Groningen and one with Prof. Claudia Filippi at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. We are looking for talented and highly motivated candidates to work on a collaborative project between the two groups on the combined development of advanced valence bond and quantum Monte Carlo methods for the study of excited-state processes in complex systems.

The project will focus on the development and implementation of non-orthogonal configuration interaction as well as quantum Monte Carlo methods for an accurate and chemically interpretable description of excited states. The resulting methods will be applied to potential upconversion materials.

Requirements

Specific Requirements

We are looking for candidates with:

- a master’s degree in chemistry or physics, with a specialization in theoretical chemistry/physics or related fields
- a strong interest in method and software development
- preferably, some programming experience in Fortran or C/C++
