Offer Description
Summary: There is an open call for one (1) Research Scholarship (“Bolsa de Investigação”) at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the DiaPRO.
Scientific Area: Basic Sciences and Enabling Technologies

Work Objectives: The goal of this work consists in studying the effect of irradiating the films with a pulsed laser by Raman spectroscopy. The tasks to include: (i) to obtain the Raman spectra under different conditions of excitation; (ii) to identify the Raman bands present in the spectra; (iii) to estimate the ratio of diamond and other carbonaceous structures for the different irradiation conditions; (iv) to correlate the structural information ofbained by Raman and XRD; (v) to prepare detailed reports of the performed analysis.
Place of work: The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações and of the Physics Department (i3N-Raman laboratory) at University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Dr. Joana Mendes.
Duration: 3 months, with the possibility of renewal. Start date: February 2024 or soon thereafter.

Admission Requirements:
Research grants are intended:
- for students enrolled in a degree-conferring course to carry out R&D activities with the aim to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the attainment of the respective academic degree or completion of the course (integrated or not in R&D projects).
- for students enrolled in courses that do not confer an academic degree, but which are integrated in an educational project of a higher education institution and are developed in association or cooperation with one or several R&D units.
Candidates must be Ph.D. students enrolled in the Doctoral Program of Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies at the University of Aveiro, with a grade equal or higher than 17 in a master of science and experience in structural characterization techniques such as XRD, optical techniques and Raman spectroscopy.
Additional Information
Monthly salary: 1199.64€ according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ). The payment will be made by bank transfer.

Selection criteria:
• C1 (70%): Curriculum vitae/Academic evaluation
• C2 (30%): Interview
The criteria and the final grade F will be evaluated on a 0-20 scale. The candidates will be ordered according to F = 0.7*C1 + 0.3*C2. In case of a tie, the tied candidates will be ordered according to C1, then C2. A maximum of 3 candidates will be interviewed and candidates with C2 < 16 will not be considered for the interview. The Jury has the right to not admit any of the candidates that applied for this position whenever they consider that no candidate meets the minimum requirements for the position.
