Offer Description

Complexation of boranes with N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) allows access to the corresponding boryl radicals using visible light, making the latter good reagents for radical borylation of organic substrates and photopolymerization initiators.
The aim of the postdoc is to extend the study of NHC-borane reactivity 1) to bis-NHC diboranes, and 2) to place the radicals in macromolecules and/or networks.

- Activation of diboranes on B-H bonds: access to the sequential formation of 4 borated radicals, leading to bidirectional synthesis (organic) and/or cross-linking (polymer resins)
- Activation of diboranes by photochemical breaking of the B-B bond: control the cross-linking density of polymer networks by an external stimulus, or even move towards fragmentation of the materials in question with a view to recycling.
- Exploit the resulting polymer architectures to stabilize boron-centered macroradicals, or use reversible B-B bond formation to modify network structure and generate repairable materials for use in electronics (e.g. redox batteries, or spin materials) or DNP (dynamic nuclear polarization).

The proposed radical chemistry topic lies at the interface between organic chemistry and polymer synthesis. It will be carried out at the LHCEP laboratory on the La Doua campus (Bât. Raulin), Lyon, in partnership with the CP2M laboratory, specializing in polymer chemistry (opposite the LHCEP). ANR funding
