NQSTI is a consortium of Italian entities carrying out competitive and innovative research in the field of quantum science and technology that will stimulate future industrial innovation in this field by providing a forum in which novel ideas and opportunities are transferred to companies. In particular, the activity will concern the development of a new hardware and software technology for the realisation of a highly nonlinear optical system based on cold/hot atomic gases or other nonlinear elements coupled to photons. These hybrid systems inherit the strengths of the underlying components and can lead to resource-efficient, room-temperature quantum devices. The aim is to define a novel system that acts as a quantum fluid of light that improves on already established paradigms, characterize its properties and its capacity to act as a quantum simulator platform. In order to achieve these objectives, a professional research fellowship is required, in which the fellow will have to possess skills in the engineering and analysis of photonic, optoelectronic, and atomic systems.
