Offer Description

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to represent Geographical Information Systems and Digital Geographies in research and teaching. We expect the ideal candidate for this tenure-track position to be an internationally-recognized researcher in the field of geographical information technologies and to contribute to assessing the impacts of digital geodata and digitisation on society. We are specifically interested in research activities linking geoinformatics to current research in human geography at the Department. The ideal candidate for this position thus bundles a strong technical background in GIS with a research interest in understanding how digitization processes impact society, and vice versa. This includes a solid grasp of socio-theoretical foundations and a critical lens towards digital data survey, acquisition, analysis and visualization techniques. Research which contributes to one of the University of Graz's fields of excellence or research networks is encouraged. In terms of teaching, the ideal candidate brings enthusiasm and research-focused teaching of state-of-the-art GIS technologies for all relevant curricula. Especially desired is the ability to contribute teaching to the joint Master’s degree “Geospatial Technologies”, offered in conjunction with TU Graz (as part of NAWI Graz), to train competitive graduates for future careers in science, administration and industry. In terms of cooperation, we not only aim for scientific cooperation with other academic institutions, but also value the practical application of research activities through collaboration with practitioners and the broader community. We also expect gender mainstreaming skills.
