About the National Office of Clinical Audit

The National Office of Clinical Audit (NOCA) was established in 2012 as a key enabler of clinical effectiveness which in turn is a key component of patient safety and quality. The integration of best evidence in service provision, through clinical effectiveness processes, promotes healthcare that is up to date, effective and consistent. Clinical effectiveness processes include guidelines, audit and practice guidance. NOCA establishes and maintains national clinical audits across a number of clinical areas including Intensive Care, Obstetrics, major trauma, hip fractures, arthroplasty and mortality. NOCA is funded by the Health Service Executive and is operationally

supported by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

Summary of Post

We have a full-time post-doctoral position at RCSI, suitable for a health services researcher, epidemiologist, statistician, data scientist, psychologist, health geography or related discipline. The successful candidate will be employed on a Health Research Board Secondary Data Analysis Project (TRAUMA Project), which will combine data from the National Ambulance Service and the National Office of Clinical Audit Major Trauma Audit.

This project aims to achieve 3 main goals:

1. generate a clinical prediction tool,
2. explore stakeholder preferences for ongoing database combination (completed),
3. explore geospatial implications of the trauma network for prehospital care configuration and the patient journey.

The position is based in the Department of Health Psychology, RCSI, Dublin 2, but remote working will be considered.

Specifically, the duties of the post are:

• Obtain and agree specific processes for combining datasets
• Combine and (pseudo-)anonymise datasets
• Analyse combined dataset to explore major trauma incidents nationally
• Write report and academic paper exploring the patient journey, from pre-hospital care to acute hospital discharge, and inform major trauma care for prehospital services configuration and safe patient management
• Develop a national clinical prediction rule for major trauma in Ireland
• Assist with stakeholder collective intelligence data reporting
• Explore geospatial attributes in relation to major trauma incidents and the patient journey
• Co-ordination of own day-to-day work to support ongoing projects
• Facilitating communication and dissemination of information required, including conference presentations, reports, authored peer-reviewed articles, etc.
• Liaising with the Principal Investigator, colleagues and stakeholders on matters relating to these and future projects
• Undertaking duties assigned by the Principal Investigator or his/her nominee in support of the project
