Offer Description
Your function
The Expertise Centre for Digital Media (EDM) is looking for a motivated and passionate researcher to delve into a challenging and stimulating doctoral program, specialising in Artificial Intelligence & Human-Computer Interaction. During the PhD trajectory, you will have the opportunity to work independently but, at the same time, be part of a multidisciplinary team where collaboration and mutual support are encouraged. Together, we strive to make fundamental research contributions that simultaneously have a direct impact beyond the academic world. Our team has a strong reputation for publishing groundbreaking work at the top conferences within the research domain.
For this position, we are looking for candidates with a strong interest in the intersection of Al and HCI. Possible research tracks are:
- investigating technological solutions for the manufacturing industry (e.g., Human-Robot collaboration, Proactive Digital Assistants, or Operator Well-being);
- investigating novel educative tools that can help both students and teaching teams create better, more inclusive and democratic learning environments;
- investigating technology to support healthcare providers in giving better care to patients.
You will present research results to stakeholders, process them in scientific publications and present them on scientific forums.
This position is also linked to a limited teaching assignment in the computer science program. This offers you the opportunity to combine your passion for education with your research activities and have an impact on the next generation of computer scientists.
Your team
The research centre Expertise Centre for Digital Media (EDM, www.uhasselt.be/edm) has been conducting (mainly) software-oriented research in computer science for nearly 30 years. The EDM works according to the "Combining Applied and Basic Research" (ABC) principle, striving for fundamental innovations that quickly reach society and end users. For example, this vision has resulted in structural collaboration with the Flemish strategic research centres iMinds/imec and Flanders Make.
The EDM offers researchers a stimulating, pleasant and easily accessible working environment in which teamwork and well-being play an important role. Researchers get the opportunity to study the latest technologies and work with state-of-the-art equipment to support the research.
