Scientific Initiation Studentships
Applications are open for 1 Scientific Initiation Studentship, within the framework of project/R&D institution AC/DC (PTDC/EME-REN/4124/2021), financed by national funds through FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC), under the following conditions:

Admission Requirements:
Scientific Initiation Studentships
- To be enrolled at a professional higher technical course, at a bachelor degree, at an integrated master or master degree, or to have a bachelor degree and be enrolled at a course that does not award an academic degree and it is integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, performed in association or cooperation with one or several R&D units; or declaration of honor in which undertakes to be enrolled until the grant's contract is done.
- knowledge in the area of laboratory tests related to combustion, namely thermo-chemical conversion of biomass and assembly of experimental setups
- not to exceed with this contract, including the possible renovations, an accumulated period of one year in this type of studentship, continuously or with interruptions;
- not to have held any other fellowship directly or indirectly funded by FCT.
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries shall be registered by a Portuguese institution, according to the Decree-Law nr. 66/2018, of August, 16th, and the Ordinance nr. 33/2019, of January, 25th. Workplan and the objectives to achieve:
Carry out studies on the process of converting alternative fuels with a view to application in the energy sector. The work will include the development of an experimental setup for thermal and thermochemical conversion of biomass/bio-fuels in a controlled atmosphere with the possibility of including other alternative fuels (e.g. ammonia, hydrogen). Parametric studies of the thermochemical conversion process will also be carried out. The work aims to assess the potential for decarbonization of the energy sector through the use of alternative fuels (e.g. ammonia, hydrogen, biomass, bio-fuels).

Workplace: The work will developed at IDMEC-Instituto de Engenharia Mecânica, as host institution, under the scientific supervision of Professor Miguel Mendes
Duration: The research fellowship(s) will have the duration of 3 months. It’s expected to begin in February 2024, and may be eventually renewed up to the maximum stated by the law or the end of the project (12 months).
Monthly maintenance allowance: According to the values for Research Fellowships awarded by FCT in Portugal (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores), the amount of the monthly maintenance allowance is € 541,12, being the payment method by Wire Transfer.
Selection methods: The selection methods will be the following: curriculum evaluation and interview via Zoom, with the respective weight of 70% and 30%.

Announcement/ notification of the results: The final evaluation results will communicated to all applicants by email.
After be notified, candidates have 10 working days to submit a formal rebuttal, by email.
Application deadline and formalization: The call is open in the period between January 25th and February 7th, until 18:00, 2024.
Scientific Initiation Studentships
It is mandatory to formalize applications with the submission of the following documents: Curriculum Vitae; academic degree certificate, where applicable; proof of enrollment at an academic degree course or at a course that does not award an academic degree; motivation letter; declaration on honour that the applicant does not exceed with this contract, including the possible renovations, an accumulated period of one year in this type of studentship, continuously or with interruptions, and has not held any other fellowship directly or indirectly funded by FCT.
