Offer Description

The University of Greifswald’s Faculty of Law and Economics is looking to fill the position of

Professor (W3) of General Economics, Health Economics and Econometrics

by 1 April 2025.

The position holder shall be expected to represent the full scope of research and teaching in the subject area. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute, in particular, to the teaching of general economics in the bachelor’s degree courses belonging to the Department of Economics, with classes on microeconomic theory, general economics and econometrics, as well as in the M.Sc. in Health Care Management and the M.Sc. in Business Administration with the fields of health economics and econometrics. The applicants’ ability to integrate their own research into current research at the faculty and university e.g. One Health and Data Science is desirable. They are expected to have experience in academic self-governance and a successful track record in the acquisition of external research funding. The University of Greifswald promotes and expects family-friendly managerial behaviour.

The job specifications are defined in § 58(1) Landeshochschulgesetz - LHG M-V (State Higher Education Act): a university degree, teaching aptitude and academic excellence, which is generally documented by an outstanding doctoral degree, as well as further academic achievements, which, in accordance with § 58(2) LHG M-V, are usually proven by a junior professorship, habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications.

In accordance with § 61 LHG M-V, the professor appointed will be assigned the status of a civil servant with unlimited tenure (Beamtenverhältnis auf Lebenszeit); alternatively, if the applicant is not permanently available: limited tenure as a civil servant or public service employee. As a general rule, permanent tenure as a civil servant can only be awarded for the first time to persons who have not yet ended their 50th year of life when they enter employment.

This vacancy is open to all applicants, irrespective of gender. The University would like to increase the proportion of women in areas in which they are underrepresented.  Thus, applications from women are particularly welcome and will be treated with priority if they have the same qualifications and as long as there are no clear reasons which make a fellow applicant more suitable.   Women are specifically encouraged to apply for this position. Severely disabled applicants with the same professional and personal qualifications will also be given preference.

Unfortunately, application costs (e.g. travel expenses for interviews) will not be reimbursed by the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
