The School of Mathematics and Physics at Queen’s University Belfast, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship position in spectroscopy of laser-produced plasmas. The post, funded by the UKRI Science and Technology Facilities Council, is available for up to 36 months in the first instance, and is based in the Centre for Light-Matter Interactions within the School of Mathematics and Physics.

The project will focus on optical and infrared spectroscopy of laser-produced plasmas, to identify new transitions in heavy elements of importance in the modelling of kilonova spectral observations.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria: 

  • Hold a Degree or equivalent in Physics or a physics-related subject, and a PhD in experimental plasma physics or has submitted thesis.
  • Specific relevant experience in spectroscopy of laboratory plasmas.

This is a fixed term post, available for 36 months. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
