Specific research functions
The successful candidate will conduct research in line with the demands of SSD L-FIL-LET/04 “Lingua e
letteratura latina” understood as the historical-critical and philological study of Latin texts, with special
consideration to the system of literary genres (poetry, theatre, narrative) and the literature of the Imperial
Age and of Late Antiquity. The successful candidate will have gained a considerable reputation in the field of
the historical study of Latin literature at both national and international level by demonstrating hermeneutic

efficacy, methodological rigour, and excellent linguistic and philological skills. He/she will be committed to
submit high standard work to publishers of both national and international standing, and to apply for
research funding from relevant financing bodies in competitive open calls.
Specific teaching functions
The successful candidate will be involved in the teaching of modules in the BA degree course in “Studi letterari
e filosofici” and in the MA degree course in “Lettere classiche” (Siena). Lectures and seminars will ordinarily
fall within the remit of the SSD “Lingua e letteratura latina”; however, if requested by the Department, he/she
might be asked to teach modules on cognate subjects. He/she will participate in the running of the degree
course in “Studi letterari e filosofici” by coordinating the activities associated with written examinations and
the Latin certification.
